Nucleotide sequences of mitochondrial ATPase subunit 9 genes from three lines of rice (Oryza Sativca L.)

Y. Xie and R. Wu

Section of Biochemistry, Molecular and Cell Biology, Cornell University Ithaca, NY 14853, USA

We recently discovered that the atp9 sequences that were published in Nucleic Acids Research, 18, p. 4268, 1990 are in error. The atp9 sequences from three lines of rice are not rice sequences but are form petunia atp9 which was used as the probe. We believe that during the construction of our three rice mitochondrial libraries, petunia atp9 contaminated our libraries. We thank V. Walbot for calling to our attention this error, and for giving us a reference on the rice atp9 sequence that her group has published (Kaleikau et al., Nucleic Acids Research, 18, p. 370, 1990).
