Received August 11, 1981. The nucleotide sequence of the 5S ribosomal RNA of the thermoacidophilie archaebacterium Sulfolobus acidocaldarius was determined. The high degree of evident secondary structure in the molecule has implications for the common higher order structure of other 5S rRNAs, both bacterial and eukaryotic.
