About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover: Three-dimensional graph showing relationships between a large interconnected set of protein families from SwissProt. This figure corresponds to the two-dimensional graph (Figure 3) from Enright et al. in this issue [Nucleic Acids Res. (2002) 30, 1575- 1584]. Spheres in the graph represent protein families detected using the TRIBE-MCL algorithm, and are coloured according to their GO classifications. Edges show similarity connections between families, and are mostly the result of promiscuous domains. This figure illustrates the complexity of protein sequence similarity space, and the successful decomposition of this complexity into protein families with the TRIBE-MCL algorithm. The image was generated using BioLayout-3D [Enright,A.J. and Ouzounis,C.A. (2001) Bioinformatics, 17,853-854].
