Illustration of a DNA replication complex containing a generic DNA polymerase domain (green) covalently attached to Sso7d (purple), a sequence non-specific dsDNA binding protein. The additional interactions between Sso7d and the minor groove of the dsDNA lead to an overall stabilization of binding to the DNA substrate by the polymerase, an enhancement of processivity (number of nucleotides incorporated per binding event), and an improvement in PCR efficiency.
