Filamentous localization of K-ras mRNA in a live, serum-stimulated human dermal fibroblast cell. The K-ras mRNA molecules were well localized in the cytoplasm and the distribution followed the cell morphology. The fluorescence image of the living cell was generated by specific hybridization of dual (donor and acceptor) molecular beacons to K-ras mRNA target and the detection of FRET (fluorescence resonance energy transfer) signal.
